Formed in 1981, The Bridge was existence for 25 years and played through the 2006 season. Over that 25 year history, The Bridge played in EVEY CAJUN CLASSIC and USSSA Regional Championship, except one, when the mailed checked was misplaced.
During the 25 year run of The Bridge, some 80 players wore the uniform of the fabled South Louisiana softball team. Coaches and players are quick to say The Bridge, though having utilized so many talented softball players, was basically a core of 17 players.
The Bridge utilized some 16 sponsors over the 25 years, worked the Beer Booth and sold Crawfish Etoufee during the Crawfish Festival, and had several individuals step up and make financial contributions to Da Bridge.
The Bridges yearly season, deemed “THE LEVEE TOUR” consisted of playing in several fund raiser tournaments, primarily The Catahoula Church Fair, The Cajun Classic, The Mullet Classic (Ft. Walton Beach), State and Regional Championships.
Although competitive to the very end, most will remember The BRIDGE as being ambassadors for the game of softball and South Louisiana. The Bridge was sure to make friends everywhere they played and perfected the PARKING LOT B-B-Qs. The Bridge mastered the playing field and the parking lot.
Umpires would probably be the most relieved The Bridge is no longer in existence, as many a times, you could hear the call from the Umpire lounge, "NOT THE BRIDGE".
