In 1985 some concerned parents in Cameron Parish decided to give their children a chance to compete in summer athletics. Because the neighborhoods were so small, no baseball was available to young boys. With determination and clear vision these parents set out to form a softball organization that would provide competition for all its children and provide a source of pride for the community.
They created a team in each USSSA boys and girls age group to make sure no one was left out. Teams had such dynamic names as Tarpons, Marlins, Young Guns, Red Devils, Braves, Eagles, Stars & Stripes, L’il Stars & Stripes, and Lady Cajuns. Cameron would institute a tradition of having players advance through the various age groups while learning advance playing skills and the benefits of teamwork.
Over the next twenty years Cameron would establish its legacy as a USSSA youth powerhouse. During that time Cameron would win 17 USSSA Boys World Championships, 26 Louisiana USSSA Boys State Championships, 7 Louisiana USSSA Girls State Championships and 6 Louisiana USSSA Boys State Runner Up finishes. Today, many of those players are involved with coaching their own children in USSSA softball and baseball programs.
Though completely devastated by Hurricane Rita, there is no doubt that Cameron will rise and again become one of the premier youth organizations in USSSA.
